A New Automattician Is Born

Climber looking at next mountain range

Hi everyone! The day has finally come. I have finished the trial, I have had the final interview with HR and now I can formally announce…

I passed!!

Wow, what a journey! It’s been just under 8 months from when I started writing my first cover letter. It’s been exactly 3 months from the day I submitted my reapplication! So much has happened in that time. So much information has entered my brain! I just hope it is still all there…

I plan on giving a rundown of the Trial soon in another post. But for the moment, I just wanted to mention the final goal I had set in my last post. And that was to ENJOY the last few days of the Trial.

Now that I look back over the Trial and the application as a whole, I can see how it is designed well to test each applicant. It is designed not only to test you on your technical knowledge and support philosophy, but also your match in the company and its culture. Just as no person is a good fit for every company, no company is going to be a god fit with every person. The trial is a good time for both the applicant and the company to test each other out. And while the whole process was mentally overwhelming at times, I feel I enjoyed it for what it was meant to be.

I enjoyed the work and also the interactions I had with other employees and even some customers. But I also enjoyed the fact this whole process tried me, seeing how I would push myself to keep moving forward.I enjoyed the way the application drove me to motivate myself and study new things, interact with new people and get a new perspective on the world. It was like climbing a mountain… It was tough along the way. But now that I am at the summit, I can look back and see the trail I’ve come. The proverbial exercise I went through to get here now feels great!

Well, actually… I turn and notice what looked to be sumit was actually a small platou, leading to a new climb, a new peak, a new range of mountains to head for. While coming this far was definitely an achievement, I look at my peers and notice I still have a way to go before I can really fill the shoes of a true Happiness Engineer. There is still so much to do, so much to learn, so many areas I can improve in! I really feel like, the journey has just begun…

conclusion

I wanted to finish off by thanking everyone who has helped me and supported me get this far. First, without God and His leading here, none of this would ever had become a reality. Next, I want to thank my wife, my family, my buddy, my church family and other Automatticians for the practical role you all played in helping me achieve this. And finally, I would also like to thank all those who followed this blog and especially those who personally reached out to me to encourage me on my way. I send a big Thank You to all of you!

Who knows what is just up ahead? What could possibly be lying around the next bend in the trail or even beyond the next peak I see? The journey still continues…

Thanks for reading!

Thanks, Nick! I only made it because I, too, read other people’s blogs and learned from them. I’m happy to hear I’ve passed on info/help/advice to the next person, too ??
